Carbon Monitoring for Action (CARMA) just released a website that shows the biggest and highest CO2 emitting power plants in the world. You can also find the power plant that serves you (by zipcode) and their rankings. My options in DC are pretty horrible.

As hard as I'm trying to save 2 tonnes of carbon this year with reduced travel, turning off my computer, recycling, etc. turns out Pepco Holdings projects an 8% increase in power from fossil fuels (versus greener options). Since they currently emit more than 3.7 million tonnes of CO2 per year, I think that more than cancels me out. Yikes. Maybe the most effective way to be green at home and work is to petition our local power companies!

The CARMA site is one of three that we've been working with to promote the Center for Global Development via search marketing and social media - thanks for helping to spread the word about a really great cause!

We blogged about our work with the Center here: Media Partners with Center for Global Development
